Expert Sustainable Design from Merrill
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is a performance-based rating system established by the U.S. Green Building Council and is considered the benchmark for green building and sustainable design standards.
At Merrill Corporation, Principal Engineer Robert Merrill, P.E., and Senior Project Manager Tom Pozerski, P.E., are certified as LEED Accredited Professionals.
Low Impact Development Solutions
New and redevelopment projects are impacted by regulations from the Environmental Protection Agency and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection that focus on the management of stormwater.
Low Impact Development (LID) is a stormwater management strategy that promotes natural infiltration of stormwater as close to its source as possible. LID uses natural methods and green design principles to treat stormwater as a resource rather than a waste product.
Merrill Corporation has designed and employed numerous LID strategies as Best Management Practices in our site designs. Tree filters have been an effective means of improving stormwater quality as well as creating attractive streetscapes. We have also used bioretention areas, vegetated swales, and rain gardens to manage stormwater in a way that reduces the impact of developed areas.
