Marine design, permitting, dredge oversight, certifications, Hydrographic survey, chemical and bioassay sampling and testing.

Today, boaters can safely berth their boats at the Plymouth Yacht Club, but that wasn’t always the case.

Years of heavy sediment buildup created potentially hazardous situations at every low tide. Because of this, PYC needed a well-qualified and experienced marine engineering firm to provide complicated local, state, and federal permitting for their dredging project.

Among the project’s many challenges, the Army Corp of Engineers required high levels of testing to protect the aquatic species. And the work needed to complete the project would need to be performed while minimizing interruptions during boating season.

These challenges made communication, coordination, and timing critical at every step.

In addition to the marine design, permitting, dredge oversight, certifications, and project closeout services, Merrill’s marine engineers provided a Hydrographic survey and coordinated chemical and bioassay sampling and testing.

The dredging allowed the PYC to remove material in the waterway allowing for safe boating operations for years to come. All material was excavated, removed, and deposited in an environmentally responsible manner.
